Established in 1991 to quench the Silicon Valley’s growing thirst for microbrews, the Los Gatos Brewing Company has attracted beer drinkers from far and wide to sample our award-winning brews and feast on our fusion of gourmet California cuisine. Today, after filling these voids in the nearby enclave of Los Gatos, the Brewing Company now pours its famous brews at this second location in famous Masson-Lefranc building at San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose.
The building itself is a testament to fine champagnes, and now to the new bubbly – our microbrews. Designed in 1883 by Theodore Lenzen, San Jose’s premier architect of the day, the Masson-Lefranc building originally served as the headquarter and cellars of Masson-Lefranc wines, and the epicenter of San Jose’s burgeoning wine empire.
The head of a vast commercial empire by 1887, Charles Lefranc was killed in a freak accident while attempting to curtail a runaway carriage, some say right in front of this building. To his memory, we have placed a carriage icon at the street in front of our location, the spot said to be where the fatal accident took place.
Paul Masson, Lefranc’s son-in-law, went on to form the famous Paul Masson Champagne Company which grew to worldwide recognition. His champagne cellars below our building now serve as our meeting and event rooms, and its champagne ageing alcoves now store our ready-to-pour kegs.
We honor these pioneers by lifting a brew in toast to their accomplishments – a les votres!
Along with our loyal patrons, we hope to share many years of success here in San Pedro Square. We leave an open invitation for you to enjoy our outstanding seasonal beers, our ongoing events and our exquisite cuisine.
Anytime you’re in downtown, we’ll be pouring.
