Special Wine of the Day

  • Ponzi, Arneis, Willamette Valley, 2010

~ The Arneis grape is traditionally planted in the Northern Piedmonte region of Italy. During one of their many trips to visit the Currado family of The Vietti Winery, the Ponzi family was surprised by the innovation in the vineyard and cellar. They returned to their winery and immediately planted cuttings of Arneis in 1991.

This bottling is a brilliant gold color with aromas of tangerine, grapefruit and white peach. A hint of muddled mint frames the lively nose. The mouth is full with key lime, honeycomb and a bright pineapple finish.

  • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Red Blend, Italy, 2005

~ Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a red wine with Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status produced in the wineyards surrounding the town of Montepulciano. This wine is made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal.

An intense garnet red color, blended with Canaiolo Nero (10%-20%) and small amounts of other local varieties such as Mammolo. Intense aromas of black cherry, violet and vanilla lead to full, balanced flavor with noticeable but discreet tannins. This particular wine is aged in oak barrels for two years; three years in the riserva.

  • Burgundy produces some of the world’s finest wines by the likes of Chambertin and Montrachet. Even so, it is a confusing patchwork of appellations, demanding that the wine lover work hard to understand their subtleties, nomenclature and flavor. Burgundy lies in the east central part of France and is about 300 miles long running from north to south. It is broken up into regions, regions into vineyards and often vineyards in to tiny family-owned plots. The four main regions are Chablis, Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Macon, and Beaujolais.

  • Chardonnay is originally from France’s Burgundy region, where the best white Burgundies are powerful and rich, with complex fruit flavors and notes of earth and minerals. In addition to being the most expensive, the Burgundy examples of Chardonnay were long considered the benchmark standard of expressing terroir through Chardonnay.
